Flamenco Festival Miami – Overtown Rhythm & Soul – Target Globalbeat

There is always something to see and do in Miami, and this weekend is no exception.

The festival begins on Thursday Feb 7th and goes until Sat Feb 9th at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, formerly Carnival Center for the Performing Arts.

whew! And I thought The Fillmore Miami Beach at The Jackie Gleason Theater was a long name! You win, Adrienne. Yours is bigger.

Performances at Flamenco Festival Miami include:

  • Thur Feb 7 at 8pm Cuatro Esquinas with Carmen Linares, Miguel Poveda, Juan Carlos Romero and Pastora Galván
  • Fri Feb 8 at 8pm Tomatito Quintet – Gypsy guitarist
  • Sat Feb 9 at 8pm Mujeres with Merche Esmeralda, Belén Maya, Rocio Molina with special guest artist Diana Navarro

Feb 9 & 10 from noon until 7pm

An Exhibition of ’50s and ’60s Nightclub Billboards from Miami’s “Little Broadway”
In honor of Black History Month, The Arsht Center is proud to host the largest-ever showing of classic billboards from The Black Archives’ Clyde Killens/Sam Rabin collection. Relive the vibrant days of Overtown nightlife, when Miami’s historic neighborhood was the place to catch America?s reigning jazz, blues and R&B entertainers. “Overtown Rhythm & Soul” is a stirring tribute to one of the most fruitful eras in the history of American music.

Don’t miss a special exhibit event on Saturday, February 9 at 4:00 p.m., lecture by Dr. Dorothy Jenkins Fields, historian and archivist. Event is FREE.

Target Globalbeat

And if you still haven’t had enough keep in mind Target Globalbeat is still ongoing through April.

Held the second Saturaday of each month, Target Globalbeat is a multicultural music gathering appropriate for the entire family.

The schedule for this Saturday, Feb 9 includes:

  • 3:00 pm Joey Gilmore (American blues)
  • 3:00 pm Circ X
  • 4:00 pm Chinese Dragon parade
  • 4:30 pm Plena Es (Puerto Rican plena)
  • 5:30 pm The Samba Academy (Brazilian Samba)
  • 6:00 pm Sevillanas dance party with Siempre Flamenco (Spanish Flamenco)
